I stopped by a local Barnes & Noble Store a couple of weeks ago, and it is always exciting to see my book on bookstores’ shelves among other authors. (I kinda had to chuckle that my poem book sits next to John Milton’s, Paradise Lost, when my Christian Inspirational Book, The Fingers of God, could perhaps be considered “paradise found!” 🙂
I have been writing my whole life, and it has been a dream and goal of mine to publish a book. I finally achieved that dream last year when my book launched nationally in September.
My mother was a poet. She had two-self-published books, and also had a recording of one of her poems put to song. When I and my siblings were little, she would read her poetry to us, and I remember us tearfully listening to her stories in poem and how wonderful and moving they were, even to us at our young age. She also had a wonderful soothing tone to her voice that drew us in to what she was reading. If I sit back and think back to those days, I can still hear her beautiful voice reading her beautiful poems.
Once a year, at the local Rotary Club I belong to, we conduct a special “Career Day” to a local elementary magnet school we have adopted. The Rotarians may be accountants, doctors, attorneys, etc., sharing their professions. Even though my profession has been property management and client relations, I always choose to discuss the gift of writing and being an author. In addition to my recently-published inspirational poem book, The Fingers of God, I have also written a children’s book that has not yet been published, which I read to the children on Career Day. One day soon, that book too will be published, but it’s fun to share it with the children in the meantime.Â
I believe writing is a gift, and we certainly all have within us a story to be told. Even if you write and it never gets published, at least you are putting it to paper, and it could develop into a possible future book to be published and shared. And even if it is not published, it is something “you” wrote and has meaning to you and the ones you love.
I love writing and reading, and I would encourage everyone who has a desire and dream to write, to just start writing every day … whether it be a novel, a memoir, short stories, a diary, poetry, blogs, posts online, etc., … just write a little bit every day.   You might be surprised how good you really are and, who knows, you may end up with a bestseller in the future. All of us have to start somewhere. It may be a hidden gift God has given you, and you just haven’t realized it until you give it a chance. That also goes for painting, photography, singing, composing music, playing instruments, etc., … the list could go on.Â
Explore your God-given gifts and talents and see where it might take you into the future.

Also, please feel free to share in the comments section what you have written or wish to write, or ask any questions you may have regarding writing, publishing, etc. I would love to hear from you!
